The last comma from a serial (or series of 3 or more terms) of commas is known as Oxford comma.
The usage is optional and has some ambiguity.
Oxford comma is also known as Harvard comma.
i.e. and e.g.

e.g. ⇒ exempli gratia (Latin) ⇒ for example
